First-generation UIC finance major.
About
I’ve never had the luxury of standing on the sidelines. As a first-generation college student and American, I’ve taken on real-world responsibilities far earlier than most. During high school and college, I helped my family navigate financial and legal challenges, filed complex paperwork on my father’s behalf, and balanced work with academics, all while learning how to lead in unfamiliar spaces.
These experiences shaped my work ethic and adaptability. I didn’t just show up for opportunities; I worked hard to make my name known to create more of them. From stepping into leadership roles at work within weeks of my orientation, to joining programs that pushed me out of my comfort zone, I’ve learned that resilience and initiative open the doors that I have been craving for.
Now, as a finance major at UIC involved in Black Emerging Leaders Academy, CHANCE, and Black Students In Business, I’m building the technical and professional foundation to lead in business, tech, and beyond. My mission is simple: to break limits, inspire others from similar backgrounds, and make an impact that reaches far beyond myself.

My Unique College Journey
My path through college was anything but traditional, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I began earning college credits through dual enrollment at City Colleges of Chicago in early 2020. This introduced me to higher education early. After graduating high school, I started at Illinois State University, then transferred back to City Colleges to refocus, rebuild, and strengthen my academic foundation.
Today, I am a Finance major at the University of Illinois - Chicago, graduating in December 2026. Along the way, I’ve balanced course-loads with multiple part-time jobs, from specialist/certified trainer in the restaurant industry to independent freelance gigs, while participating in student organizations: BELA, CHANCE, and BSIB. These experiences shaped me into someone resourceful, adaptable, and ready to take initiative even when the path isn’t clear.
Every challenge I face and every obstacle I encounter has sharpened my work ethnic and strengthened my drive to succeed. I see my college journey as proof that persistence pays off and success is earned.
